Take Me Out To The Ball Game...

We had a great night at the Memphis Redbirds game this week! We went with our friends Pam and Alan, Patti, Angela and Nathan. The kids had a blast, and daddy was very sweet and bought us all the yummy baseball treats we wanted! It was the perfect night to be at the game, not too hot or cold. Of course it helped that we had a suite with an amazing view ;)

Finally an update!

Ok, so our life has been completely chaotic these last few months and I haven't updated my blog.

The main reason I've been so out of it lately is that we're expecting a baby!! I am now 29 weeks pregnant, and we're expecting Joshua Edward to arrive via c-section around July 10th. We have some great 3D ultrasounds pictures, and I will have Brian scan them in for me to post later.

Sam and Jack are VERY excited about Joshua coming. Sam is planning all the ways she wants to help take care of the baby, and Jack is planning all the boy-like things he wants to teach him!

Samantha had a great basketball season, and we have now moved on to Jack's baseball season. We LOVE watching our kids play sports!!

I am still reading the book "What He Must Be" - and I still plan to post a review as well as discussion questions as soon as I finish it. Usually, I am a very fast reader. But between this pregnancy, homeschoolinng and the kids being sick earlier this year, I just haven't had the time to read that I normally do.

Find a Husband, Build a Husband?
Texas Pastor Advances Controversial Role for Dad in the Dating Process

Wheaton, IL—“I am convinced, says pastor and teacher Voddie Baucham, “that one of the most crucial questions I face is, ‘Whom should my daughter marry’”?

Baucham is not your typical father or your typical pastor. At 6 feet 3 inches tall and 300 pounds, he looks more like a linebacker than a Bible teacher. But Baucham has been recognized as an expert on the subject of family life and gender roles by sources as diverse as state homeschool conferences and CNN.

Advice could hardly come at a better time. The latest Census data show that “married with children” is no longer the norm in America. At last report[1], there were more adult men and women living alone than in a traditional family. Add 12 million single parent homes to the mix, and it becomes clear that Americans are not doing marriage well when they do it at all. Is there anything that the church—or the family—can do to mentor a generation of Americans largely ill-equipped to select a mate or sustain a marriage?

In his February 2009 release from Crossway Books, provocatively titled What He Must Be: If He Wants to Marry My Daughter, Baucham contends that this search for a husband must begin with dad. His premise, which requires the father’s conscientious involvement in the search for and even the training of a future husband, is undoubtedly countercultural.

Baucham notes: “We cannot expect young men in our culture to turn up as ready-made husbands. Our culture is broken. As a result, young men are broken. They do not have the tools they need. This is not always due to a lack of spiritual commitment. It is usually a result of a lack of teaching and discipleship. They just don’t know what they don’t know. As a result, fathers have to consider the possibility that they may, in a very real way, have to build their own son-in-law.”

The success of Baucham’s previous book, Family Driven Faith, and the demand for his lectures—which took him to Zambia, Germany, and Northern Ireland in 2008, as well as to scores of pastors conferences and churches across the United States—suggests that his message is taking root.

Crossway’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Geoff Dennis, recently discussed the success of Baucham’s message with Christian Retailing magazine: “In person and on the printed page, Voddie Baucham’s message is compelling and relevant. He speaks with passion and authority about something that matters to all of us—the family,” explained Dennis.

Baucham’s book hits store shelves on February 28, 2009. Crossway will be sponsoring the “Find One, Build One” blog tour during the first two weeks of March. Jack's Music Party!

Jackson had been planning a music-themed party for his 5th birthday for almost a year! Brian and Jack built a real rock-n-roll stage with lights, and we made a guitar birthday cake. Ms. Amy, "the best music teacher EVER" came to the party and did some fabulous music activities with the kids. Everyone had a great time, and Jack was just thrilled!

...is a FREE piano! Honestly, though, I would have paid money for this piano - it's beautiful, and in excellent condition. We've all had a blast playing it the last couple of weeks.

Mom's Birthday

School Days, and God's Grace

We've had a a busy (and sometimes stressful) month. Everyone is still adjusting to the new schedules, and the intense workload of the Veritas program. With my mom's illness this month, the kids have done their schoolwork in all kinds of places - the car, Ms Karla's house, FedEx, Aunt Kellye's house, and even the hospital waiting room! Without the help of Karla, Aunt Lindy, and of course Daddy - we never would have finished everything we needed to in the last 2 weeks. (Mom is cancer free, and recovering well!)

Here is a picture of Samantha and Ainsley the day Ms Karla was her teacher. They had so much fun doing their school work together, and Ms Karla had lots of fun Fall activities planned for the girls as well...

Sam and Jack each have to learn a Bible verse every week, and they have to be able to say them from memory by Thursday. Here are each of their verses for this week -

Sam's First Day of School

Samantha had her first day at the Veritas Classical School last Thursday. She will go one day a week with other homeschool students, and then work at home the rest of the week. She was so excited that morning, she could barely contain herself! When we picked her up that afternoon, she was bouncing with excitement, talking non-stop about her new friends and teacher.

She was also very happy that she got to see her friend Ainsley during lunch and play time. Ainsley is the daughter of one of my dearest friends, Karla.

Jack is also going to school, a Pre-K program, two days a week. He absolutely loves it! They are both having a little bit of a hard time being apart from each other a couple days a week, but they're getting used to it and it's probably good for them. I pray that they'll always love each other as much as they do now.

ELVIS LIVES!!

Well, we finally brought Jack to Graceland and oh my word did he love it! Grandma Patty, Grandma G, and Papa Ron all came with us too. Everyone had a great time...oh - you know you did, there's no point in denying it ;)

August 2008 - Vacation

Kellye and I took the kids on an impromptu trip to Nashville, and it was a blast! We spent most of the weekend just swimming the hotel pool, or lost in downtown Nashville:) Here are a few pictures ~
